Aion 2 Blends Classic MMORPG Systems With U4N

Viesti Kirjoittaja adonis »

My first reaction to Aion 2 was fairly cautious because its initial presentation reminded me of many Korean MMORPGs built around familiar progression and PvP concepts. However, memories of playing the original Aion made me interested in giving the sequel a proper test. The available play session was limited to approximately 12 hours across two days, and server problems and breaks reduced my actual time in the game to around 10 or 11 hours. That is not enough to judge a complete MMORPG, but it was sufficient to understand the general direction. The experience also provided an early look at how Aion 2 Items could become part of the game's broader character progression.

Nine Classes To Explore
Aion 2 starts with nine classes, using a traditional role structure that separates characters into tanks, DPS, and healers. This holy trinity setup has been a core part of MMORPG design for many years, so experienced players should have little trouble understanding the basic expectations. The system also creates a natural foundation for group encounters because each role has a clear purpose. Although the initial class structure feels familiar, players will likely need more time with each class before understanding how their abilities and combat patterns differ in practice.

Two Distinct Targeting Styles
Combat is where the game starts to become more unusual. Players can choose between two targeting modes. Aion One mode uses classic tab targeting, while Aion 2 mode focuses on using the mouse to point toward enemies. I spent most of the test using the tab-targeting approach, but it was not always as smooth as I expected. There were moments when target selection felt awkward, especially when combined with the game's click-to-move system. Players who are accustomed to selecting targets with the mouse may find that this combination requires some adjustment.

Aion 2 Mode Changes The Feel
The alternative targeting system was more comfortable for me. Once I switched to Aion 2 mode, combat felt more direct, and the controls seemed to work together more naturally. It gave the impression that the developers had designed much of the game around this approach. This is important because a control scheme can influence the entire feel of an MMORPG, particularly during repeated battles. Even players who normally prefer tab targeting may want to experiment with both options before deciding which one works best for their preferred class and combat style.

Mobile Roots Are Still Visible
The control design becomes easier to understand when considering the game's development history. Aion 2 was announced in 2018 as a mobile MMORPG, and traces of that original direction can still be noticed in its interface and control choices. At the same time, the game supports a dedicated controller mode. I tested the controller option only briefly, so I did not have enough time to explore every aspect of it. Nevertheless, having support for multiple input methods provides additional flexibility and gives players more ways to approach the game.

An Early Foundation For Progression
Because the play test was short and affected by server issues, there is still plenty to learn about the game's longer-term progression and economy. The available sessions nevertheless showed a clear combination of traditional MMORPG systems and alternative combat controls. Players will eventually have to balance class development, equipment, currency, and other progression goals as they spend more time in the game. Depending on how the final economy develops, some players may search for cheap Aion 2 Items when preparing their characters. Before focusing on that side of progression, however, learning the targeting system and becoming comfortable with movement should provide a stronger starting point.
